Yes, you can customize the amount of RAM (except for our entry-level Dedicated Servers containing Intel 10-core and Intel dual 10-core), Storage options, dedicated GPU, NICs, and other hardware like firewalls.

For all of our Dedicated Servers, you can purchase these Add-Ons:

More storage (choose from HDD, SSD, or NVMe SSD) .
Dedicated GPUs (we offer GeForce GT 1030, and NVIDIA Tesla A2 and A4 cards).
Additional backup options with unlimited traffic.
Upgraded NICs.
pfSense hardware firewalls.
Managed server option (while we specialize in self-managed servers, we offer ad hoc or regular support with managing your server for a fee should you need help).

Which Dedicated Server configuration is right for me?

Regardless of the plan you pick, you can spin up servers in any of our 10 global Regions located in the EU (Germany), the United States (New York City, St. Louis, and Seattle), Singapore, and the UK.

Can I change my Dedicated Server’s hardware configuration later on?

Yes, you can change your Dedicated Server’s hardware setup at any time by contacting our customer support team.

For example, we can help you add or remove disks, increase the amount of RAM, add more storage, or set up other Contabo cloud solutions like virtual private servers and S3-compatible object storage.

After you get in touch with support, one of our support technicians will work with you to figure out what you need, the scope of work and associated fees, and when your server will be temporarily offline so that the hardware changes are implemented.

Which operating systems are available for my Dedicated Server?

Contabo supports many operating systems. You can choose from a wide range of popular Linux distributions for your server:

Ubuntu.
CentOS and RHEL variants.
Debian.
Fedora.
OpenSuse.
AlmaLinux.
Rocky Linux.
Windows Server (note that the Windows license fee is added to your monthly Dedicated Server fee if you choose Windows Server as an OS).

Do you offer custom operating system installation with specific parameters?

We offer VNC– and SSH-based installations for AlmaLinux, CentOS, Fedora, Debian, and Ubuntu.

As part of your Dedicated Server setup, you’ll get temporary IPMI-KVM access for 24–48 hours (assuming you didn’t purchase IPMI-KVM as an Add-On) to mount your own iso file and install any operating system you want. Note that both the temporary and Add-On options require you to contact support via the Customer Control Panel.

What hypervisors are available with my Dedicated Server?

For virtualization management, we offer Proxmox VE for free out-of-the-box. You’re also welcome to install any hypervisor you’d like (e.g., VMware or Xen).

Do you offer admin control panels for Dedicated Servers?

Yes, we offer cPanel and Plesk admin at additional cost. We also offer Webmin for free. Note that we’re offering Plesk for free for the first month across our VPS and VDS plans, and Dedicated Servers.

And if you’re not satisfied with Plesk within the first month, then just cancel it before the end of your first month through the Customer Control Panel (you won’t be charged if you cancel it before the first month ends). What’s the difference between your Dedicated Servers and Virtual Dedicated Servers (VDS)?

TL;DR

Dedicated Servers have the most computing power of all of Contabo’s server products.
Cloud VDS also have a good amount of computing power, but not as much as Dedicated Servers have (they’re virtualized Dedicated Servers).
Cloud VPS don’t have the computing power Cloud VDS and Dedicated Servers have, but they still have a lot of computing bang for the buck.

Dedicated Server
Individual single-tenant physical server aka a bare metal server. Compared to our other server products (Cloud VPS, Cloud VDS, Storage VPS, and Outlet Servers), Dedicated Servers have the most computing power and storage availability for cheap. Not to mention, Dedicated Servers are great for applications that need quick CPU and RAM response times.

Cloud VDS
Virtualized dedicated servers that have more computing power than their Cloud VPS counterparts, but not as much as Dedicated Servers. And similar to Dedicated Servers, each Virtual Dedicated Server has its own dedicated resources, so you get 100% computing power for your applications – no sharing whatsoever between different VDS.

Given all of this, VDS can also be used for any virtualization projects and for supporting highly demanding applications. Note that all Cloud VDS plans come with additional VNC access and you get full root access to your VDS.

What’s the difference between your Dedicated Servers and Virtual Dedicated Servers (VDS)?
